Wolf of Wall Street- Jordan Meets Donnie

The scene begins with a close up of Jordan, but the camera begins to dolly out so that the viewer can see Donnie walk into the frame. We see Jordan look up to speak to Donnie, but the camera then dollies all the way to a medium shot so that we can see Jordan sitting and Donnie standing.

The yellow lighting in the scene hints that this scene is meant to have taken place several years ago, as well as to create a warm and optimistic feeling. The scene also uses continuity editing because its a conversation happening between two people in real time.

As the the conversation progresses, when Jordan is talking we are viewing him from an over the shoulder shot on Donnie’s righthand side. The camera is also looking down at Jordan, but I believe it is because he is sitting and not because of a power divide.

When Donnie speaks, we view him in an over the shoulder shot, not crossing the imaginary 180 line. When Donnie starts speaking it isn't until about 3 or 4 seconds later that it cuts to his face, this is done so that the conversation appears to flow naturally instead of it jumping to each character.

The music playing in the background appears to be empathetic. This is because it directly matches the emotion of the conversation. Upbeat music is playing while a light-hearted conversation is happening, so it aligns directly.

The scene ends with Donnie quitting his job to work with Jordan. Jordan is in the background while Donnie is at the foreground. The emphasizes Donnie’s size, making him looking physically larger than Jordan, this makes Donnie seem more powerful for quitting his job.
